The chemical properties of the dispersant NNO

Sodium Naphthalene Sulphonate NNO

The dispersant NNO, with the chemical formula C21H14Na2O6S2, is a brownish powder-like organic substance. As one of the simplest products among the shrinkage agents, dispersant NNO plays a crucial role in multiple industrial fields due to its excellent performance.

Dispersant NNO is soluble in any hardness of water and has good diffusivity and the ability to protect colloids. At the same time, it exhibits characteristics such as alkali resistance, acid resistance, and hardness water resistance. It is worth noting that dispersant NNO has good dispersibility for dyes, pigments, clays, etc. and has affinity for proteins and polyamide fibers, but no affinity for cotton and linen fibers.

The dispersant NNO, with the chemical name of sodium salt of poly-naphthalene sulfonic acid, is an organic compound with excellent dispersing properties. Its chemical formula is usually C11H9NaO4S (some sources mention C21H14Na2O6S2, which may be due to differences in preparation processes or product purity, resulting in slight variations in the chemical formula), and it appears as a light brown or colorless to light yellow powder. The dispersant NNO is an anionic dispersant, possessing the characteristic of simultaneously exhibiting hydrophobicity and hydrophilicity within the molecule. This property enables it to effectively disperse and stabilize solid particles such as inorganic or organic pigments and fillers that are difficult to dissolve in liquids.

The chemical structure of the dispersant NNO is based on the naphthalene sulfonic acid formaldehyde condensate. This structure endows it with unique dispersing properties and stability. The naphthalene sulfonic acid group provides excellent water solubility and anionic characteristics, while the formaldehyde condensation enhances the intermolecular interactions of the molecule, thereby improving the stability and dispersing efficiency of the dispersant. Moreover, the dispersant NNO also has good alkali resistance, acid resistance, and hardness water resistance, and can maintain its dispersing performance under various water quality conditions.

The dispersant NNO is highly soluble in any hardness of water. This property enables it to perform an outstanding dispersing function in various water-based systems. It can quickly disperse and stabilize solid particles such as pigments and fillers, preventing agglomeration and sedimentation of the particles. At the same time, the dispersant NNO can also regulate the size and distribution of the particles, thereby further improving the uniformity and stability of the system. Its excellent dispersing performance has led to its wide application in industries such as dyes, pigments, coatings, and inks.

The dispersant NNO not only has excellent dispersing performance but also possesses high stability. It can maintain the stability of the dispersion system under certain conditions and prevent the aggregation and precipitation of particles. This stability is mainly attributed to the naphthalene sulfonic acid group and the formaldehyde condensation structure in its molecular structure. These two components work together to form strong intermolecular interactions, allowing the dispersant to tightly wrap around the particle surface, forming a stable dispersion layer. This layer has strong anti-aggregation properties and can effectively prevent the precipitation or crystallization of particles in water, thereby ensuring the quality and stability of solid particles such as pigments and fillers.
